New GOP Bill Imposes Volume Limit For Rape Alarms
A new bill introduced by rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) would make it illegal for rape alarms to be any louder than 60 decibels, which studies have shown is just loud enough for the rapist to hear it.
“It warns the perpetrator they’re commiting an act of rape, but without hurting their ears and waking the neighbors,” says Smith.
House speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has also voiced his support.
“I heard a rape alarm once and had a headache for days,” he stated.
Senator John McCain (R-AZ), however, opposes the bill. He says it should be re-written not to impose a volume limit, but to end the production and sales of rape alarms.
“We already have burglar alarms and fire alarms,” he said. “The American people don’t need another alarm stuck on their walls.”
